Difference between Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum

In the world of perfumery, there are different categories for classifying perfumes. Surely you have come across these two terms in your favorite fragrances; eau de toilette and eau de parfum and perhaps you don't know exactly how they differ from each other.

Although we know this can be confusing, we want to explain very simply the differences that exist and what is better to buy. Let's get started!

What is the difference between Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum?

The main difference between Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum is the level of concentration that we will find in the fragrance that is found in the perfume and this is what will determine the durability of the aroma on our skin.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

The Eau de Parfum, or in Spanish, eau de parfum is a term used to designate those olfactory compositions that have between 16% and 18% essential oils. Eau de parfum is pure essence mixed with other parts of water and alcohol. The duration is longer, lasting approximately between 6 and 10 hours.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)

While Eau de Toilette, or in Spanish cologne, refers to formulas that have a much lower concentration of essence, ranging between 8% and 15%. The sillage lasts less, approximately 3 to 5 hours, and that's why they're usually cheaper than perfumes and Eau de Parfums. The intensity is fresher and lighter.

But now, what should you use? That really depends a lot. For example, due to its intensity and durability of approximately 6 to 8 hours, the Eau de Parfum will be perfect to use on certain occasions, such as a day at the office, an event, a concert, where you want to have a pleasant but not so intense aroma.

And if we talk about the Eau de Toilette, considering that it is usually a lower intensity, softer and fresher and that its durability will be much less, it will be ideal to use on certain occasions where you will not be present for a long time, this could be a job interview, a presentation, a short walk, etc.
Longevity of EDT and EDP
